Italian Dishes in the DPRK

Pyongyang has a number of restaurants specializing in foreign cuisines. The Italian Food Restaurant on Kwangbok Street is one of them. Opened in December 2008, the restaurant serves pizza and spaghetti, which are traditional Italian fare. Pizza and spaghetti are popular in many countries.

The restaurant with ten highly qualified cooks is making sustained efforts to make pizza and spaghetti taste genuine. Especially, Kim Won Chol and Choe Jin Ok are experts in Italian cooking. Choe Jin Ok, 26-year-old 1st-class cook, says, “It’s not an easy job preparing scores of kinds of pizza such as vegetable pizza, meat pizza, fruit pizza and so on, according to customers’ orders. But I feel greatly encouraged when I see them have the meal I have prepared with keen relish.”

Besides pizza and spaghetti, the restaurant serves varieties of other Italian dishes. Everyday the cookshop is thronged with customers including foreigners, who are impressed by the flavour of its dishes as good as those served in Italy.
